Alberta Experiences Migration Boom

On June 16, 2023, Statistics Canada announced that Canada’s population had reached the 40-million mark. With this significant growth, an increasing number of Canadians are making their way to Alberta.

Statistics Canada’s recent estimates on interprovincial migration showed in the first quarter of 2023, Alberta witnessed a positive net migration of 15,786 individuals. Among them were 920 people from Atlantic Canada, 356 from Quebec, 7,693 from Ontario, 1,262 from Manitoba, 1,621 from Saskatchewan, 434 from the Territories, and 3,500 from British Columbia. Additionally, Alberta welcomed 35,932 immigrants from outside Canada.

While Alberta emerged as the net winner in interprovincial migration, Ontario experienced a net loss of -14,732, British Columbia -712, and Quebec -257.
