Over the past few weeks, Premier Smith has been issuing mandate letters to her cabinet. These letters outline the objectives and priorities of the work ministers will focus on in their roles.
Minister of Jobs, Economy and Trade, Matt Jones, has been directed to “design a ministry-specific job-attraction strategy to raise the awareness of young Albertans (aged 16 to 24) and adults changing careers of the skilled trades and professions available in each economic sector, including pathways for education, apprenticeship and training.”
In their mandate letters, Minister of Environment and Protected Areas, Rebecca Schulz, Minister of Energy and Minerals, Brian Jean, and Minister of Transportation and Economic Corridors, Devin Dreeshen, have been directed to support Jones in this endeavour.
This mandate not only demonstrates the government’s commitment to expanding employment opportunities in skilled trades but also reinforces the recommendations of the Careers Education Task Force Report.
