Todd Grundy

Chair

Principal and Owner, Arpi’s North Inc.

Todd Grundy is a respected industry leader and the owner of Arpi’s North Inc., a mechanical contracting firm employing over 300 people. His company’s portfolio includes notable projects such as Stantec Tower and Rogers Place Arena. Todd has Red Seal certification as a registered Sheet Metal Mechanic.

Todd joined the Board of Directors in 2007 and brings invaluable insights to CLRA given his experience in industry rising through the ranks from apprentice to journeyman to executive to owner.

Todd cares deeply about giving back. Arpi’s North provides scholarships to apprentices and supports non-profit organizations like YOUCAN Youth Services and Kids Kottage Foundation.

Wayne Troock

Vice Chair

Insulation Segment Manager, Skyway Canada

Wayne Troock’s role at Skyway Canada involves overseeing insulation projects across multiple industries, including oil and gas, pulp and paper, and power generation. He specializes in asbestos and lead abatement and holds Red Seal certification as an insulator.

With more than 40 years of industry experience, Wayne has remained steadfast in his commitment to the safety of his crew and the well-being of those around him. He is a collaborative leader who emphasizes communication, accountability, and continuous improvement, principles he brought with him to the CLRA Board of Directors when he joined in 2017.

Wayne enjoys spending time outdoors with his family, including his young grandchildren.

Joe McFadyen

President

Joe McFadyen is a seasoned labour relations practitioner with expertise in arbitration, collective bargaining, and collective agreement administration. Before joining CLRA in 2012, he worked in labour relations for two major Canadian airlines and the NAIT Academic Staff Association. He became President of CLRA in 2019.

In 2024, Joe was appointed by the Government of Alberta to serve a three-year term on the Alberta Board of Skilled Trades. He also serves on the Construction Owners’ Association of Alberta Safety Committee and on the Board of Directors for Helmets to Hardhats and the Resource Diversification Council.

Joe enjoys spending with his grandchildren, golfing, and watching hockey.

Aaron Mireau

Director, Labour Relations

With more than two decades of experience in labour relations, Aaron Mireau plays a key role at CLRA in fostering strong, trusted relationships between contractors, owners, and top-quality tradespeople. He has led multi-employer negotiations and served as lead counsel in grievance arbitrations.

Aaron is Co-Director at Better SuperVision, a leadership skills program jointly run by the Building Trades of Alberta and CLRA. He also serves as a board member of the Workforce Development Trust. Aaron holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree in Industrial Relations from the University of British Columbia. When he’s not working, he enjoys listening to vinyl or sitting around a campfire.

Jay Stewart

Director, Labour Relations

Jay Stewart has specialized in labour relations for more than 20 years, serving both the private and public sectors. He has led multiple collective bargaining tables, bringing practical insight to the process. At the CLRA, Jay shares his expertise in dispute resolution, grievance management, arbitrations, workforce management, and policy development.

Jay has served on multiple boards, including the Laborers’ Pension Fund of Western Canada, the Millwrights Health Welfare and Pension Trust Fund, and the Alberta Labour Relations Board. He has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Superior.

Jay enjoys spending time with his wife and son, and golfing when he can.

Ayla McFadyen

Services Coordinator

Ayla McFadyen specializes in workplace safety and regulatory compliance, having spent a decade leading health and safety programs in construction and industrial settings. She is an excellent problem-solver and uses her leadership and communication skills to create safe and efficient workspaces that drive productivity and growth.

At CLRA, Ayla fosters a culture of continuous improvement, enhancing the value of services and tools provided to members. She previously served as President of the Occupational Health and Safety’s Student Association at NAIT, the same institute where she earned a Diploma. Ayla’s three kids keep her busy, but when she can, she tries to improve her golf game.

Shilling Buck

Vice Chair

Manager/Owner, NWS Construction

With more than 25 years of industrial experience in the steel and cladding industry in Alberta, Shilling has remained steadfast in his commitment to the safety of his team and leading the younger generations as they come up the ranks. He is a collaborative leader who emphasizes communication, leadership and continuous improvement.

Shilling has been a longstanding member of the CLRA board and served as treasurer for several years. Shilling also sits on trust fund boards to help optimize pension and benefits for skilled workers in Alberta.

Shilling enjoys spending time outdoors at the lake in the summer with his family and two teenage children.
